Claire Knill // The Willow Tree

Artist: Claire Knill

Claire Knill is a British artist based in Brighton & Hove. She holds a BA in Multimedia Textiles from Loughborough University and has since developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning sculpture, installation and collage.

Her work has featured in Sotheby's Contemporary in addition to numerous gallery exhibitions and art fairs. Claire has created installations both in the UK and internationally for private collectors, fashion brands and curators.

Claire's style is characterised by intriguing colour combinations, geometric forms and a joyful, refined aesthetic. Through movement, light and balance, her work reflects on themes of change and transition, knowing and unknowing.

The Willow Tree is a large-scale suspended sculpture that responds to air currents and activates natural light.

Hand-cut from sheet materials chosen for their luminosity and reflective qualities, its canopy of geometric and organic shapes flows and dances in motion. This subtle rhythm echoes natural phenomena – the rustle of grasses or the flicker of flame – creating a meditative presence.

The sculpture evokes a liminal, in-between state: a place of awareness without intention, where we hover between different modes of consciousness and experience.

With its towering scale and mirrored floor reflections, The Willow Tree invites us to explore expansiveness – internally and externally. In connecting with the surrounding space, it reminds us of our limitless potential, creativity and our place within a much greater whole
